Weathernews Inc. (Head office: Mihama-ku, Chiba City; CEO: Tomohiro Ishibashi) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) regarding mutual cooperation in the meteorological field with the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting (NCHMF) and the Hydrometeorological Survey, Technology and Services Center (HMSTS) of the Vietnam National Meteorological and Hydrological Administration (VNMHA).
We have been building an international cooperative relationship with the Vietnam Department of Meteorology and Hydrology since 2015, and will continue to strengthen this relationship. Through this mutual collaboration, we will provide AI-based forecast information for typhoons and heavy rain, utilizing the highly accurate, high-resolution weather forecast it has cultivated over many years, as well as Google’s flood forecasting and cyclone prediction models. By providing these services, we will contribute to reducing the risk of natural disasters and strengthening resilience in Vietnam.
Going forward, we will continue to collaborate with meteorological agencies in Asia and other countries to implement cutting-edge forecasting technology in society, thereby contributing to reducing the risk of natural disasters and realizing a sustainable society.

Agreement Date

July 31, 2025

Agreement Details

  1. Providing AI weather content related to typhoon, heavy rain, and flood forecasts
  2. Discuss and implement technical sharing to improve meteorological accuracy, human resource development, and operational support for disaster risk reduction

Our Role and Future Initiatives

In Vietnam, damage caused by floods due to typhoons and heavy rains occurs every year, and reducing this damage has become a social issue. In particular, the devastating damage caused by Typhoon YAGI in northern Vietnam in 2024 has highlighted the importance of further improving the accuracy of predicting the path of strong typhoons and forecasting heavy rain and floods.
Through this collaboration, we will provide AI-based forecast information for typhoons, heavy rain, and floods, utilizing the highly accurate, high-resolution weather forecast it has cultivated over many years. In particular, we are working to evaluate and deploy Google's AI flood forecasts and cyclone prediction models as a key component of highly accurate forecasts, leveraging the significant advancements in AI technology of recent years. This will promote adaptation to extreme weather events in Vietnam, improve social resilience, and contribute to protecting lives and property.
Going forward, we will continue to actively promote collaboration with organizations and companies around the world that face similar challenges and require cooperation, and by implementing our company's prediction technology and cutting-edge AI technology in society, we will reduce the risk of natural disasters and strengthen resilience.
