Our employees are deeply committed to the realization of a sustainable society. Working alongside our stakeholders and Supporters, we lead educational initiatives that create social value and foster environmental stewardship through our climate-conscious services.
Supporting the Challenging SHIRASE Global Environmental Event
We renamed the former Antarctic observation ship SHIRASE, Japan’s third vessel of its kind, active from 1983 to 2008, and have utilized it as a landmark symbol for global environmental reflection. Since May 2010, the ship has been moored at Funabashi Port.
Since September 2013, the SHIRASE has been managed and operated by the WNI Wx Culture Creation Center, a general incorporated foundation established by our founder. Weathernews collaborates with the foundation by providing exhibitions on the global environment and biodiversity aboard the vessel, dispatching expert instructors to lead Sorayomi Classes (interactive weather and climate workshops), and supporting biodiversity-related events during the Challenging SHIRASE hands-on programs.
Challenging SHIRASE is a recurring community event that offers local residents the opportunity to engage with nature through various observations, connect with the blessings and threats of the seasons, and experience the richness of the natural world through their five senses. This initiative serves as a platform where the company and the community work together to pass on environmental awareness to the next generation and promote sustainable community building through immersive environmental experiences.
